"Beautiful Images and Inspirational Stories"

I am a big fan of outdoor photography books - from Galen Rowel to David Muench to Ansel Adams. Like those great photographers, this book is a celebration of the beauty of the natural world, seen through a unique perspective and an astute and detail oriented photographers eye. The author offers down to earth (pun intended!) wisdom through stories of his life's travels and as the director of Lifeschool, a non profit company he started and ran for 20 years that brought students into the wilderness. Rather than focusing on the technical aspects of the photographs, he focuses on the "lifeskill" that is behind the lens - finding a unique perspective, looking for "waypoints," looking for the positive in challenges. Like my favorite outdoor photographers, these images are inspirational and make me want to head outside at sunrise to catch the best light find the best shots. I recommend Viewfinding for anyone who loves the outdoors, adventure and beautiful photos.

"Stunning Pictures, I Think the Stories May Be Even Better"

What a beautiful series of photographs! Really enjoyed this. Well worth a purchase.Still here? Well let me tell you more: Neville takes the reader through an epic adventure spanning the globe, from city shots in Peru to big wave surfing at Mavericks, each image conveys a sense of scale; I feel really small in a good way while looking at them.But I noticed something as I thumbed through the book. I found myself lingering on the text as much as the pictures. These are too short to be essays, but each one is riveting. Almost like a poem, or a love letter crammed into a post-it note, the authors short descriptions and background stories breath life into photos that already lean towards conveying a certain dynamic motion. Strongly recommended.
